There are numerous companies that operate across the territory. In the principal cities it is possible to find a station of the ARST, usually situated in the center. The tickets can be purchased at the station, in bars, in tobacconists, and in the newspaper stands near the stations.

L'A.R.S.T., Azienda Regionale Sarda Trasporti, è l'unica compagnia pubblica di trasporti terrestri, che collega i principali centri dell'isola (Olbia, Sassari, Alghero, Nuoro, Oristano, Cagliari) tra di loro e con i centri minori della provincia.
L'ARST è un Ente Strumentale della Regione Autonoma della Sardegna, istituito nel 1971 quale strumento dell'Autorità Regionale per conseguire lo sviluppo economico e sociale nell'isola. E' un ente pubblico economico, cioè un soggetto giuridico di diritto pubblico che svolge attività economica e può essere inquadrato nella nozione di impresa per il conseguimento di un fine di pubblica utilità.
