PROTECTED MARINE AREAS
  THE PROTECTED MARINE AREAS

Discover the Marine Reserve of Sardinia: a huge variety of depth and colours concentrated in the wonderful protected marine areas that make Sardinia an island unique in the world...

Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo Park

Another pearl among sardinian parks is the "Isola di Tavolara" and "Capo Coda Cavallo" marine reserve. The reserve consists also in the minor Molara and Molarotto islands, made of granite covered with limestone cliffs, where the blue lizard lives. The fauna is extremely rich, some years ago among the various species it was possible to notice the sea monk . Marvellous is the expance of sea in the west coast of Molara named "piscine di Molara" (molara pool), for its colour and its transparent sea bed.

Sinis-Isola di Mal di Ventre protected marine riserve

The Sinis Peninsula-Isola di Mal di Ventre (in the province of Oristano) is also a protected area, which the ornithological significance of the ecosystem is so important that is considerate “humid zone of international relevance” by Ramsar Agreement in 1971. This coast border, with his historical patrimony (Tharros ruins, coastal town founded by Phoenicians), cultural and landscape richness (Is Arutas and Mari Ermi, beautiful beaches constitute by crystal quartz grains) is one of the most attractive region of Sardinia.

The Regional park and the protected Marine Area of Porto Conte e Capo Caccia-Isola Piana

The Regional park and the protected Marine Area of Porto Conte e Capo Caccia-Isola Piana are entirely included in the Alghero territory The Porto Conte Gulf ( “ Nimphaea natural harbour” of Romans) is characterized by impassable and inaccessible tracts. It preserved an important flora and fauna patrimony. The calcareous formations, specially constituted by cliffs, are the largest widespread karstification of emerged and submerged cavities in the Mediterranean. Among them, the “Nettuno” Cavity, 2500 meters long, made suggestive and famous all over the world for the salad lake it winds along inside.

The protected Marine Area of Capo Carbonara- Villasimius

The protected Marine Area of Capo Carbonara and the two islands of Cavoli and Serpentara just in front of it, represent a magnificent and unique natural park in the south-east Sardinia. The variety and original form of granitic rocks give particular nuances to the landscape. The small village of Carbonara which has become Villasimius, only in the 1862, takes its name from the intensive exploitation of charcoal practiced a long time ago. The submerged lands of Villasimius enclose archaeological finds of every ages relegate there for centuries from the numerous shipwrecked, the most ancient one is a Roman boat dated back to 250 A.C. that it was transporting a shiploade of medieval crockery.
