The Madonna del Rimedio's day is a beautiful feast celebrated in Oristano from the 29th of August to the 9th of September. Thousands and thousands of devoted pilgrims crowd the sanctuary, located in the village having the same name, about two km from Oristano. They come from all over the island to thank the Blessed Virgin or to beg for grace.
During the feast, Oristano comes to life around its sanctuary thanks to stalls displaying tipical products, such as mullets, eels, piglets, mostaccioli( typical Oristano sweets) and the delicious Vernaccia: the renowned and valued Oristano wine.
Religious rites and different daily masses are celebrated from the 29th of August to the 6th of September. However the most beautiful and characteristic celebrations take place on the 7th, 8th and 9th of September.
On the 7th of September, in the afternoon, “Sa Cursa de is tres Pandelas” (the three flags run), a picturesque and unmissable equestrian event, takes place.
On the 8th of September, the Madonna del Rimedio statue is carried in procession to the parish church and then back to its sanctuary on the 9th of September. |
