LOCATION: North-west Sardinia
Lake Baratz, also known as Barazza, is the only natural lake in Sardinia. It's located north of Alghero, near the beach of Porto Ferro and its origin is marine and dates back to more than one hundred thousand years ago. The lake, which is very small, can be reached even from the beach, along a beautiful and refreshing path that can be covered on foot or bike. A long pinewood, also full of dwarf fan palms, strawberry trees, myrtle and brooms, will keep you company for almost the entire route. By car, Lake Baratz can be reached passing the village of Palmadula and going on towards Porto Conte. The lake's waters are greenish and swampy, and there are many different species of both non-migratory and migratory birds., like for example black-necked grebes , little grebes, grey herons, little egrets, Eurasian coots and seagulls. The area surrounding the lake is quiet and relaxing, thanks also to high trunk trees.
