LOCATION: East Sardinia
Lake Gusana is located in the Province of Nuoro, in the Barbagia of Ollolai, in the district of Gavoi. The lake is an artificial basin, created in 1960, after the barrage of River Taloro. The lake is surrounded by a thick wood of downy oaks, cork oak trees, cherry trees, walnut trees, hawthorns, evergreen oaks and poplars, and has long been a destination for tourists. The traveller, thanks also to the presence of three hotels, a holiday farmhouse and a camping site, has the chance to spend a pleasant holiday throughout the year. The Lake Gusana is often chosen as a starting-point by travellers arriving in Sardinia for the winter holidays, because reaching the island's mountain resorts from there is quite easy and quick. The area is also characterized by the presence of important and charming archaeological sites, like “Santu Mikeli”, the “Domus de Janas de S'Iscrithola” and the monolith complex of “Perdas Fittas”. Different sport activities can be practised on the lake, like for example fishing for trout, carp, tench and perch. Canoeing and windsurfing are also very popular.
