Location: North-East of Sardinia
The Forest of Mount Lerno is located in the district of Pattada., in the Province of Sassari. Its surface area covers a total of 7050 acres. The forest vegetation is characterized by evergreen oaks woods, that used to be more numerous until few years ago, when they were devastated by a fire. However, a successful work of reforestation started immediately after: so visitors to this forest can see how quickly and effectively the work of a whole community can lead to incredible results. People of this territory feel indeed really close to this forest and the fire has generated a feeling of pride in their hearts, making this area even more fascinating. The forest of Mount Lerno is also characterized by phillyrea, cistus, heather and strawberry trees, dominated by impressive plantations of cork oak trees of rare beauty. In the forest of Mount Lerno, besides many other fauna species, you can admire rare specimens of Sardinian fallow-deers: a species seriously threatened by extinction that , thanks to these nature reserves, is slowly starting to inhabit again the forests of Sardinia.
