FORESTA SOS LITTOS - SAS TUMBAS Alà dei Sardi Ala' Dei Sardi SS [Sassari]

Location: North-East of Sardinia
The forest of Sos Littos – Sas Tumbas is located between the district of Alà dei Sardi, in the Province of Olbia and Tempio, and the district of Bitti, in the Province of Nuoro. The forest has been public property since 1914 and covers a surface area of 5325 acres. Sos Littos – Sas Tumbas is characterized by an alternation of vegetations and streams. Evergreen oaks woods, plantations of cork oak trees and phillyreas alternate and blend with strawberry trees, heather, cistus, lavender, thorny sparzio, lentisk, phillyrea angustifolia and the always present myrtle. But this fascinating vegetation is not the only protagonist of this forest, there are also fallow deers, mouflons and wild boars, besides pine martens, wildcats, weasels, cape hares and foxes. Those who are lucky can also admire specimens of golden eagle (that builds its nest on Mount Tepilora), but also peregrine falcons, buzzards, Barbary partridges, wood pigeons and sparrow-hawks. The numerous watercourses, although quite small, abound in fishes of different species.
