The protected Marine Area of Capo Carbonara and the two islands of Cavoli and Serpentara just in front of it, represent a magnificent and unique natural park in the south-east Sardinia. The variety and original form of granitic rocks give particular nuances to the landscape. The small village of Carbonara which has become Villasimius, only in the 1862, takes its name from the intensive exploitation of charcoal practiced a long time ago. The submerged lands of Villasimius enclose archaeological finds of every ages relegate there for centuries from the numerous shipwrecked, the most ancient one is a Roman boat dated back to 250 A.C. that it was transporting a shiploade of medieval crockery.
