Carloforte is the only built-up area in San Pietro Island and it can be reached in about 20 minutes by boat leaving from Porto Vesme or in 45 minutes from Calasetta. The town is divided in urban quarters characterized by short buildings and narrow streets typical of the marine boroughs and, in particular, of the Ligurian ones. Going through the typical narrow streets towards the town centre we reach the borough called Castello where the ancient walls stand as well as the Fort and “La Porta del Leone”.

San Pietro coasts are beautiful and attractive. In the south we can find Palmoreddu and Giunco beaches and the Girin bay. Going on we reach Punta Nera beach with its beautiful marine cave and we arrive at the columns of Carloforte, in the south of the Island where it’s possible to admire some trachyte caves considered today as national monuments. Close to this wonderful place there are Lucchese beach, Genià Island, Punta Grossa and Mezzaluna gulf with many other marine caves.

Then Punta Fradelin and Punta Spalmatore with a large beach. Going to the north, after La Caletta beach, the coast is more rocky, with headlands such as Punta dei Cannoni, Spine and Caporosso, where it’s possible to admire some rare avifauna specimens. Our trip goes on till Capo Sandalo and the little island called “il Corno” just in front of it: the best place for diving. Then we find Calafico, an overhang whose rocks have been shaped by the wind.

| We then reach the Calavinagra canal with its ancient tunny nets. We can also see the natural basin “il Troggiu” and the caves of Nasca; la Grotta delle Oche (the cave of Gooses) which is about 50 metres deep, Mamerosso Canal, Punta Regolina and Tacche Bianche. Just a bit ahead we find the Calalunga canal, the Natte canal and the Punta reef. Just in front of it are Isola Piana (the Piana Island) and Ratti little Island. In this part of the coast we find Tacca Rossa and Cantagallina beach.
