The Vecchia Marina ("old port" in Italian) which lends its name to this small family-run hotel is located in the bay of Porto Frailis in Arbatax, the popular tourist destination situated just a few minutes away from the town of Tortolì. This part of Sardinia, known as the Ogliastra, is perfectly placed between some of the island's most beautiful beaches and the spectacular Gennargentu massif. Not surprisingly, the architecture and interior decoration of Hotel Vecchia Marina has been influenced by the vicinity to both the sea and the mountains, resulting in what might be described as part sunny coastal hotel, part rustic inland retreat. Looking out onto the hotel's attractive garden, Vecchia Marina's 21 light-filled bedrooms are tastefully decorated using traditional terracotta floor tiles, and typical Sardinian furnishings, custom made by local artisans. Arbatax is a tourist resort situated on the northern edge nestled at the base of the Capo Bellavista. Not far from a recently reclaimed land, this small village has been built nearby an old tower that dates back to the XVI century.
Northwards, near the village of Lotzorai and about 10 kilometres from Arbatax, there is the beach of Lotzorai, followed by the Santa Maria Navarrese seashore.
The beach of Orri, with a fine white sand and a shallow bottom, is 4 kilometres from Tortolì. |
