SU MARMURI CAVES Ulassai NU [Nuoro]
| |
|
| |
The su Marmuri caves are so named for the peculiar colour and the aspects of its conformation. They are a masterpiece considered among the most imposing in Europe, and in some point they reach 70 metre of highness. The temperature inside the caves is uniform and about 10 degrees. The cave is excavated in the Ulassai heel: a calcareous massif that overlooks the village. The entrance opens on a detrital steep escarpment easily traversable thanks to a flight of 200 steps. 850 metres long, it has the visitable part disposed on a floor. Su Marmuri is a still alive cave: this means that concretions still continue to take shape.
