 | Villasimius is situated about 50 kilometres far from Cagliari, to the southeast, on the left of the Rio Foxi, whose mouth is in Carbonara gulf. Founded in the early XIX century where the ancient Carbonara was, and under the name of which it had been known until 1862. Villasimius went to a period of rapid development during the Sixties, when it became a well-known summer resort. The town is mostly a tourist centre. In the village you should see the Visual Art Testing Centre, in the Casa Comunale, where some works of Modern Art are kept, and the parish, that houses a marble statue of a woman of the Roman age: This statue was found among the ruins of a thermal bath, and has been thought to be a Madonna for ages. |

 | The principal attractions of this area are the surroundings, with beautiful white sanded beaches and crystal clear waters. Starting from the western part, about 7 kilometres far from the village, there are the small creeks of Capo Boi, alternating to beautiful cliffs, that shelter from mistral. Then there is the well-equipped Campus beach, a long sandy shore, ideal for longs walks, followed by the beaches of Campo Longu and Del Riso, nearby the local tourist port. |

 | Towards Capo Carbonara , with the old fortress at its back, the pink sanded Cala Caterina beach is found, and then, in the promontory of Capo Carbonara, in front of the small “Isola dei Cavoli” there is the homonymous beach, surrounded by granitic rocks. After Capo Carbonara beach you can find Cava Usai and its small creeks Cala Burroni, characterized by a wonderful rocky floor. To the northwest you can see Porto Giunco Beach, called “The beach with two seas”, because of the pond at its back; the granite worn away from the neighbouring rocks gives the sand a pink colour. |

 | On the right there is Carbonara Gulf, that ends with capo Boi; on the left there are Notteri pond and Simius Beach, that tops with Punta Molentis, while in the open sea, Serpentara, a small island , lies. Not far from the coast, in the sea, a statue by Pinuccio Sciola, the Madonna del Naufrago (Madonna of the Shipwrecked) was put in the depth in order to remind some shipwrecks occurred in that area. About 20 kilometres from Villasimius, northwards, there are the beautiful beaches of the Costa Rei, among these, Costa Rei beach, 8 kilometres long, stands out by its sand particularly white.
