Is Janas caves , 280 metres long, of “carsic” origins, shows features unique of its kind. The cave opens with an entrance rectangular shaped , dipped in a luxuriant forest, it consists of different rooms. The first one is the hall, a wide room with a slight slope on the floor, graced with huge stalagmites decorated with a vegetal gloss..
After the Hall you can find the most beautiful room called Home of the Janas, with three great stalagmites , that according to an old legend would be the Janas, the ancient inhabitant of the cave, petrified by God, because they were found guilty for the murder of an old priest. The walls are decorated with moulds, columns and ornaments, whereas the ceiling is completely filled with white and peaky stalactites. The following room is called “Su Mulino” (The Mill), due to the presence of a mould colour ochre , here you can find two stalagmites: the first reminds a Madonna with a Baby and the second one the Holy Shroud. To reach the last room it is necessary to go through a large spare passage called “Su Longu” (The Long) and through “The Bridge”, a rocky blade that make visitors bow their head ; after a short walk it is possible to reach the room called “la Sala del Guano” full of bats due to the presence of a little stream water course , this room is the ideal place for the fauna of the cave.
