The beautiful caves of Is Zuddas are placed in Santadi on the mount Meana at 256 metres. Inside it is possible to admire the remains of a prehistoric rodent extinct about 400 years ago, the PROLAGUS SARDUS , present only in Sardinia and Corsica. In the first room it is possible to observe some flaws, stalactites, stalagmites, that all together create some columns. Going through a natural tunnel you can reach the beautiful room called “Sala dell’organo” (organ room) name due to the presence of a column made of stalactites and stalagmites which reminds a pipe organ; near the organ and at the base of it there are some formations called “aragoniti coralloidi”, some stalagmites, moulds, and some tubular formations.
The walls are covered with crystals and white formations called “aragoniti aghiformi”. Straight after a short tunnel you can reach the Hall of the Theatre (Salone del Teatro), huge and wonderful. Finally it is possible to reach a fairy – tale setting called “la Sala delle Eccentriche” where the vault is decorated with unique formations called “aragoniti eccentriche” grown in every directions without being influenced by the force of gravity . Since last few years on Christmas Eve the mass is being celebrated here.
