2. The deepest canyon in Europe
In Barbagia area, in the east-centre of Sardinia, dipped in the spectacular Supramonte, surrounded by thick forest and splendid oleanders, we can find the most impressive natural abyss of Europe: "Su Gorroppu" gorge, also called Gran Canyon of Europe. This is one of the fascinating and impressing simbol of Gennargentu Mountains.
The height of the huge vertical faces exceed 400 meters. The gorge is a deep wound of calcareous rocks sculpted by water and shaped during the millenniums courses by the rio Flumineddu rushing water, between Orgosolo Supramonte and Urzulei mountain; the river continue his course over the canyon , creating numerous small lakes and going down to Dorgali valley where it feed different sources. |

3. The highest dunes in Europe
One of the less known area in Sardinia, but not for that less interesting, is the western south coast of the island, where we can find the primary dunes complex, which beuaty is extended in the territory of Arbus, Guspini and Gonnosfanadiga towns.
Piscinas is one of the most important natural environment on regional, national and mediterranean scale. Dunes have a strong landscape effect that leaves visitors breathless.
The beach is about 6 km. long with 50 meters high dunes, plenty of blooming asphodels.

4. The widest museum opened to the sky in the world
Sardinia could be rightly considered, the biggest open sky museum in the world, with his 7.000 Nuraghi, misterous solidly stone-made construction, that for theirs architectural peculiarity can be assimilated to pyramids, scattered evrerywhere in the region; the big megalithic monuments formed by Dolmen, Giants'Tombs, sacred wells, Domus de janas, rappresent the tipical elements of civility of the nuraghi, that make sardinia unique in the planet.
