Want to find out more?

Two literary options are recommended to those who want prepare a holiday in Sardinia or just to find out more:

First
, try the numerous guides about the island like Lonely Planet, Touring Club or those edited by Carlo Delfino or Marenostrum , available in best bookshops or newsstands.

Second, beyond traditional tourism, we recommend excellent local literature to get familiar with the Sardinian perspective.

Among these, “Canne al Vento”, a wonderful novel by Grazia Deledda (who was awarded the Nobel prize for literature in 1926), fascinating insight into an East Sardinian town unable to keep up with the social changes of history.

Another worthwhile writer is Sebastiano Satta, lawyer and poet whose "Canti Barbarincini" and “Versi Ribelli” celebrate his own homeland, the glorious Barbagia, at the same time savage and noble.

A bitter view of olden day farm life in Gavino Ledda’s “Padre padrone” on his tough childhood under his father’s yoke and entry into culture (learning to read and write in the army) to flee post-war Sardinian misery (the book inspired a film directed by Taviani bros. in 1976).
