The religious procession of 29th of August celebrates the date when, in 1900, the colossal statue of the "Cristo Redentore" was positioned on the top of Monte Ortobene. Even if the lay festivity attracts the greateast movement of tourists, the religious one is the most important to people from Nuoro. During the celebration of "Redentore" the people are gathered in the public square since dawn, in front of the Cathedral and, singing Sardinian songs, they start a procession towards the statue. The cortege is headed by a cart decorated with ears of wheat and oleander flowers. In front of the statue will be celebrated a sung Mass, followed by a solemn procession along the streets of Monte Ortobene.
The great lay festivity is represented by a beautiful and colourful parade: the procession of the characteristic Sardinian costumes will go through the city among typical songs and dances.
